Wrapping up six months with music

Music is a big part of life and it was probably connected to your relationship before the wedding. So, it’s very important to decide the kind of music you’re going to dance your first dance as a married couple. More than almost anything else on the ceremony, this is something you should decide together.

Traditional options are musicians, such a string duo/trio/quartet; a full band or a DJ. Mostly, it depends on your taste in music and the musical selection you wish to have playing on your party. Many people opt for a live band and a DJ, so they can alternate ballads with something more upbeat. Which doesn’t mean you can’t have a band play the best of what’s on nightclubs these days.

The good thing about the band is that if they’re experienced enough, there isn’t anything you can ask that they won’t know how to play. The best about the DJ is that the songs will still sound the same no matter what. But most of all, it’s extremely important to discuss the playlist thoroughly with the people you hire. And if it’s the case of live music, do go see them playing somewhere before you close the deal.

If you like female vocals, The BB Collective may be what you’re looking for. They play disco, funk, soul, Motown and ballads. On the other hand, if you’re looking for something a bit more romantic, Gavin Adam Wood, from Live Music Acoustic Love is a songwriter and plays acoustic and covers.

Hope you find the perfect tunes for your wedding!

Wedding dance in honour of Patrick Swayze – R.I.P

This week, the world has lost a great actor and dancer. Patrick Swayze has died on Monday (14)  of cancer at age 57. I thought it would be nice to honour him by showing this video of a wedding dance – but not just any wedding dance! The couple recreates Dirty Dancing’s last scene, when Johnny (played by Patrick) refuses to step aside during an event and brings Baby (Jennifer Grey) to the stage with him, for a last dance.

This video has become a YouTube phenomenon, with over 6 million views and it’s a real inspiration for romantic couples.

Bride and groom, the  American photographer Julia Boggio e British filmmaker James Derbyshire decided to choose the dance because they’re both big movie fans. Because of the video, Julia even met (and danced with!) Patrick Swayze in 2007.

Now for the real scene:

So, comparing the two videos, how do you think Julia and James did?

A Thriller wedding

Apparently having a special dance on your special day has become a wedding trend. A quick search through YouTube will show that one of people’s favorites is Michael Jackson’s Thriller. And that trend is from way before MJ’s death, although it’s likely to grow even bigger now.

Have a look at these two creative examples:

While the first one was really hands-on, with bridesmaids and best men all together, the second was probably a bit more expensive, since it required dancing waiters.

Which is your favourite?
